WA KELI WA SYNOD
The 6th
of February year 2010 will be a great day for the Catholic Diocese of Machakos.
All vehicles will take the roads leading to Komarock Shrine. This is because
the Diocese will be ending the year for the youth whose theme was “Young
people, Christ is our Ray of hope and launching the year for the priests – “You
are the salt of the earth, You are the Light of the world…Mt. 5:13-14”. Nine
deacons will also be ordained on the same day to grace the occasion. What a
blessing!
The celebration is expected to
begin at around 10:00am at the Shrine of Our Lady of Komarock. This will not be
the first occasion in this Shrine, neither is it going to be the last, because
it has been a tradition of the Catholic Diocese of Machakos to have an annual
pilgrimage to this Shrine with the aim of praying through the intercession of
Mary the Mother of Jesus and the Mother of the Church for the needs of the
Diocese.

AN APPEAL TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY
The Family of God goes beyond the visible boundaries of
the Church, including the whole of humanity. When it comes to issues of
reconciliation, justice and peace, we all meet at the deeper level of our
common humanity. This project concerns all, and calls for our common action. We
therefore raise our voices in appeal to all men and women of good will. In
particular, we call on those with whom we profess the same faith in Jesus
Christ and also to people of other faiths. On the whole, the UN agencies are
doing good work in
We urge the countries of

PRAYER FOR PRIESTS
Lord Jesus, present in the most holy sacrament, You wanted
to continue your presence among us through your priests, grant that their
words, ay always be your words, their gestures, your gestures, So that their
lives be a faithful reflection of your life.
May they be men who speak to people about God, and of God
to people. Let them not be afraid to serve, that they may serve the Church in
the way she needs to be served.
Let them be witnesses of eternity in our time, men who
move in history with your won steps and doing good to all.
Let them be faithful to their duties, jealous of their
vacation and donation, bright mirrors of their identity and may they always
live the joy of the gift they received. I ask this through the intercession of
your Holy Mother May: may she, who was present in your life, be always present
in the lives of your priests. Amen.
5th
Sunday of the Ordinary Time
Isa
6:1-8; 1 Cor 15:1-11; Luke 5:1-11
The
three readings converge on the theme of the call to be ministers in God’s
vineyard. Many a time, speaking of the call to preach the Gospel, we think of
those who are priests and religious. Instead we should note that the call to
speak the truth of God is for all Christians, not underrating the ministerial
priesthood. From the reading, we can deduce four points:- first, God calls the
weak and makes them strong. Isaiah says he a sinner living among sinners. Paul
says he was a persecutor of Christians. Peter was an expert fisherman who
trusted his skills. Secondly, God sanctifies those whom he calls and prepares
them for his ministry.
Isaiah
is purified from his sinfulness, Paul had his experience of purification in
6th
Sunday of the Ordinary Time
Jer17:5-8;
1 Cor 15:12, 16-20; Luke 6: 20-26
In the first reading and the
Gospel we have two sections, blessings and curses. Jeremiah and Luke present
the opposition between those who trust in themselves and their riches with
those who trust in the Lord. The message of Jeremiah is pertinent today
considering the secularist attitude that humanity is encountering. Many people
trust in power, riches or knowledge.
How many people are suffering from hunger,
diseases, poverty or any other kind of want while living with the rich?
Instead, both the reading of Jeremiah and the words of Jesus remind us that we
find true happiness when we notice our human limitations and seek recourse in
the Lord, when we pray for the conversion of our oppressors instead of cursing
them. When we place our trust in the Lord and hope to be united with him at the
end of time.
1st
Sunday of Lent
Deut
26:4-10; Rom 10:8-13; Luke 4:1-13
The
church gives us forty days to prepare for the feast of Easter. In order to
celebrate worthily, we should have a journey of inner searching and call the
Lord to journey with us. The temptation of Jesus should warn us against
trusting in evil forces to enrich ourselves and instead trust in Our One and
All powerful God.
This
is a call to be alert and not to pride ourselves on our today’s success,
instead pray that the Lord protects us from the Evil One. As we reflect upon
the conversion to which the Church invites us during our Lenten journey,
the Lord's example should be our inspiration. We are challenged to read the
Scriptures in order to counteract the Devil who also knows how to quote the
Scriptures for his selfish ends.
2nd
week of Lent
Gen
15: 5-12, 17-18; Phil 3:17-- 4:1; Luke 9: 28-36
On the second Sunday of Lent, we read about the
transfiguration of Jesus. From this event, we encounter Jesus in prayer. This
reminds us that we need moments of prayer in order to encounter the Divine.
Secondly, we are reminded of the interconnectedness of our salvation with
Thirdly the words of
confirmation “This is my Son, my beloved, listen to him,” by virtue of
baptism we enter into covenant with God and share in the Divine Sonship. Lastly
the search for comfort is not part of our mission. Peter forgets that they are
being prepared to be fishers of men hence they have to go back to the
villages of

goals and objectives of the project are as follows:- Evangelize to this
stressed group and show them God’s love. Create awareness and educate the
community members on the prevention of HIV/ Aids and other infectious diseases. Help people living with Aids to accept their
health, cope with the disease and change their sexual exploitation. Give hope
and encouragement to participate in community activities. Teach basic
nutrition. Wipe away the stigma from their faces through carrying out intensive
counselling. Educate the children so that one day they will be self – reliant.
